March 2017- Mucormycosis

A 35 year old male Patient complains of pain and gradual mobility of the upper front tooth region for the past one month.Mobility seen in upper premaxillary region in relation to 15,14,13,12,11,21,22.

          Histopathology of the givenmultiple decalcified bone sections show necrotic bone lacking osteocytes along with numerous stout aseptate hyphae branching at obtuse angles. There is also evidence of moderate mixed inflammatory infiltrate consisting predominantly of neutrophils. Areas  of bone resorption along with osteoclasts are also present.
